Speculation has been rampant that the company’s purchase by Lenovo could mean an end to its low-cost smartphone ranges, such as the Moto X.
During Mobile World Congress, Motorola held a question and answer session on Twitter. One user asked the company “When is the next version of Moto X?”.
Motorola responded “Keep posted – hint – late summer”. It did not expand on whether that means it will unveil the smartphone then or if it is when more information about its purchase by Lenovo will be announced.
The Moto X was unveiled as Motorola’s flagship smartphone last year. It was designed to rival other high end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 5 and HTC One.
However, it was also cheaper than the other devices when bought SIM-free. That endeared it to many smartphone buyers.
Motorola also hinted that its recent purchase by Lenovo would not result in an increase in prices.
Responding to another question on Twitter, the company said: “Great smartphones should be available to everyone & days of $600 phones are limited.”
The company also revealed that it is unlikely to move away from Android. When questioned, it said: “We’d have to compromise if we spread across ecosystems. We’ll continue to focus on Android.”
